Restaurant Host/Hostess

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Are you a friendly, outgoing person who works well as part of a team? Do you have exceptional customer service skills? Are you a great communicator? Restaurant Hosts/Hostesses are sought to warmly greet and welcome customers upon their arrival and manage the timely and efficient seating of guests in the dining establishment (including the patio).

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays
  • May be exposed to hazardous cleaning chemicals and supplies, hot food preparation equipment, smoke, and 
    other hazardous conditions common to commercial food preparation areas.
  • Frequent walking and standing for long periods of time required. Labour intensive.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Required to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Excellent verbal skills to be able to communicate clearly and effectively with customers.
  • Follow health & safety guidelines including safe food handling procedures.
  • Follow all policies and procedures.
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return. Relay customer comments or suggestions to the Catering & Restaurant Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Catering & Restaurant Coordinator.
  • Clean menus of food and stains. Clean highchairs and boosters of food and stains.
  • Maintain supplies of mints/candy and toothpicks at the host stand.
  • Relay messages to servers and bus-persons as needed.
  • Upon seating, offer customers a menu and inform them of their server’s name. Inspect table for proper presentation and completeness.
  • Explain the restaurant concept to customers.
  • Seat customers based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations.
  • Accommodate special seating requests for customers whenever possible.
  • Provide customers with estimated waiting time, always maintaining a professional, courteous attitude when confronted with hostile, impatient or irate guests.
  • Call out name and number of party when tables become available.
  • When immediate seating is limited, record customers’ names and number of people in the party.
  • Welcome customers to the establishment upon arrival.
