RELIEF Support Worker

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

As a member of the Team, this staff person will have a broad working knowledge of all areas of our client’s Basic Services. This position will support the activities of the following initiatives: the Food Depot, Street Level, Personal Assistance Centre (PAC) and Housing. Reporting to the Street Level Team Leads, the Relief Support Worker is a front-line staff member that responds to the needs of our client’s community members on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Receive stock, organize storeroom, fill and distribute hampers.
  • Supervise the filling and organization of the display cases and space available for PAC.
  • Support the daily operations of the specific program and in some cases while supervising volunteers.
  • Support the Coordinator in facilitating programs and implementation of policy and procedures.
  • In the Personal Assistance Centre and in the Food Depot:
  • While working at the door/floor positions and performing bathroom checks, staff are screening and ensuring TMS zero tolerance practices are being followed. This includes refusing entrance to those who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, who are trying to access TMS services.
  • Ensure the security of the Street Level Church, for the safety of all community members, staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • At Street Level:
  • Other duties and site related duties may be assigned when required.
  • Participate in all staff training and attend monthly general meetings.
  • Maintain specific records, stats and incident reports on log books and computer files and maintain proper radio communication at all TMS facilities.
  • Ensure daily tidiness and cleanliness of work area.
  • Brief, de-brief and pray with both staff and volunteer groups when necessary.
  • Provide Life-Skills education through modelling and in some cases mentoring.
  • Communicate issues and concerns to supervisors in a proactive respectful manner.
  • Ensure services are delivered in a respectful and safe environment while enforcing facilities rules, expected code of conduct, and building cleanliness at all TMS facilities.
  • Fulfill the mission and values of our client and maintain a high level of professionalism, respect and gratitude with all staff, donors, volunteers, community members and visitors.
  • Conduct administrative duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • In Housing:
  • Work directly with residents in permanent supportive housing by providing care.
  • Work closely with Housing Support Workers to provide critical information on client care and support through accurate ETO data input and maintenance of client records.
  • Maintain the safety and security of the housing environment.
  • Respond to crises in a professional, calm, and supportive manner.
  • Weekend shifts are 12 hours long which potentially can be divided into 6 hour segments.
  • A demonstrated passion to be involved in ending homelessness in Alberta is essential.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and addictions is an asset.
  • No guaranteed minimum hours.
  • The position will require ongoing compassionate care, frequent manual labor, conflict resolution and organizational ability while working directly with risk population in life recovery .
  • As our client is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to be in agreement and to sign our Statement of Faith.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Employment security and vulnerable sector check is required.

This is a relief casual position and hours will vary from week to week. Days, evenings, weekends, overnight and stat holidays shifts are required and on short notice.
