Senior Manager

We are seeking a Senior Manager with a CPA designation to be part of our client service team in Saskatoon or Regina.

We are seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial CPA to be part of our client service team. This position provides an excellent opportunity for growth and advancement and an exciting challenging career in a professional environment. It will be of interest to individuals with a minimum of seven years experience managing in an owner managed public accounting practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

In the early stages, the new Manager takes responsibility for directing and controlling a number of engagements with which there is some familiarity.  The fully competent Senior Manager is capable of directing and controlling numerous engagements regardless of type, size or complexity, and has assumed responsibility for ongoing management of the clients.

The purpose of the Manager/Senior Manager role is the direction and control of engagements, development and maintenance of client relationships and development of staff.

Decision-making is based on Firm and Profession policies, procedures and standards.  It includes the adequacy of the quality/quantity of work on engagements, the methodologies to be used, appropriate solutions to complex issues, involvement of Owners/Partners in the engagement, and tactics of managing client communications.  

Problems addressed range from simple to multi-dimensional and complex.  Potential for conflict and risk ranges from low to high.  Sound judgment, creativity, flexibility and the ability to develop rapport and influence others are required. 

Interaction with others is usually in predictable structured situations.  Clear presentation of ideas in a variety of situations and significant oral and written communication skills are required. 


Client Service

  • Develops and maintains strong business relationships with clients
  • Identifies client expectations and ensures work meets or exceeds those expectations
  • Identifies client needs, anticipates and takes initiative in addressing issues and focuses on satisfying client needs
  • Identifies areas where additional services and/or implementation of new approaches will improve client profitability and success

Employee Service

  • Motivates employees to excel technically and professionally
  • Coaches, trains and provides assistance to staff
  • Provides constructive timely feedback
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection and development of staff
  • Participates in the assessment of staff performance and reward process
  • Resolves concerns and conflicts, encourages suggestions and participation
  • Functions as an information conduit between client, partners, and staff
  • Function as a role model for Staff


  • Directs and controls engagements, including ensuring:
  • engagements are planned, scheduled, staffed and carried out
  • the quality and quantity of work meets all Firm and Professional standards,
  • budgets are met and engagement is completed on a timely basis
  • engagements are fully completed with all issues resolved
  • presentation of financial statements, identification and discussion of issues with client
  • Reviews working papers, permanent files, checklists, management letters, financial statements
  • Reviews conclusions reached from analytical procedures.
  • Determines reasonableness of client explanations.
  • Researches and develops approaches and positions
  • Identifies and recommends creative solutions to complex issues
  • Prepares complex client correspondence including proposals, reports, discussion of technical issues, recommendations.

Firm Management

  • Organizes engagements to achieve needed results, anticipates obstacles, and takes steps necessary to avoid them
  • Effectively uses and provides support and training for others in the use of software and technology tools.
  • Ensures engagements are staffed to maximize benefit to Clients, Firm and Staff
  • Monitors budgets, addresses budget variances, reviews WIP, addresses realization issues, and prepares billings. 
  • Develops and implements individual marketing plan and contributes to firm success through marketing efforts
  • Functions as an ambassador for the Firm

Firm Leadership

  • Support and communicate the Firm vision & mission
  • Identify and communicate results required within group of clients managed to achieve the vision
  • Communicate expectations necessary to achieving results
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for client group results achieved
  • Support the norms and mores (culture) through which Firm success will be achieved.
  • Encourage and support others


  • Develops and maintains a broad knowledge of financial management, specific industries, and the business environment
  • Develops and maintains accounting/auditing/specialty technical knowledge by reading policies, regulations, procedures, statutes and manuals including CICA Handbook, Income Tax Act, Rules of Professional Conduct, GAAP, GAAS, Code of Ethics, Quality Control Materials, Firm Policies & Procedures, and all other applicable materials
  • Encourages and participates in development and education in areas that enhance the Firm’s ability to deliver service
  • Coordinates/ facilitates and provides staff training and development


  • Several years experience in public accounting
  • Accounting Designation
  • Post designation technical training and development
  • Supervisory and Managerial training
