: Project Officer – Sectorial Engagement 
NUMBER OF POSITION: 2 (1 in Calgary, 1 in Edmonton)
REPORTS TO: Provincial Manager


This exciting new position presents an opportunity to be one of the key players supporting AAISA’s rapid growth in meeting the emerging needs of organizations within the settlement and integration sector through sectorial engagement initiatives.

General Summary

The role of the Project Officer – Sectorial Engagement is to connect with organizations within the settlement and integration sector and lead intentional engagement initiatives across the province. The Project Officer will provide the necessary support for the implementation of AAISA's stakeholder sectorial engagement strategy and coordinate engagement activities across the province. This includes developing strategic partnerships with settlement and integration organisations within the provincial settlement and integration sector. Broadly, this position will be responsible for convening sectorial actors around specific sectorial engagement topics relating to resettlement and settlement and integration. The Project Officer will provide the necessary support for gathering, analyzing and presenting data and information for publication emanating from research and policy work on sectorial engagement initiatives. In addition, the Project Officer will develop strategic communication materials for AAISA and perform other project-based activities.

This is a full time position with a 37.5 hour work week and often involves contact with internal and external stakeholders and the management of competing priorities and meeting targeted deadlines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sectorial Engagement Development

  • ·  Lead the development and set up of three provincial working groups that will focus on issues relating to the settlement and integration sector

  • ·  Responsible for all facets of community consultation services at AAISA on sectorial engagement initiatives

  • ·  Responsible for development and management of the provincial settlement and integration dashboard

  • ·  Formulate, implement, monitor and analyse results of major engagement initiatives with emphasis on

    the Helping Immigrants Succeed (HIS) project

    Strategic Sectorial Engagement

  • ·  Recommend strategies that support AAISA's key initiatives and develop complementing work plans for deliverables

  • ·  Make decisions, within an ever changing set of circumstances, in pursuit of the stated mission , vision, goals, and objectives of the organization

  • ·  Provide management with information that will adequately support decision making on all sectorial engagement initiatives

  • ·  Provide advice on how to engage stakeholders to further AAISA's mandate

Relationship Building, Networking & Collaboration

  • ·  Connect with organizations within the settlement and integration sector to facilitate AAISA membership and participation in group discussions on sectorial engagement initiatives

  • ·  Conduct meetings on behalf of AAISA to better understand sectorial priorities

  • ·  Facilitate complex decision making activities, leveraging all identified participants and stakeholders

  • ·  Work with the AAISA Organizational Development Stakeholder’s Committee on developing publications

    periodically resulting from collaborative work on research and identified professional development requirements for sectorial engagement cohorts

    Evaluation Support Services

· Provide support for the administration of tools and techniques for internal and external evaluation of engagement initiatives


· Disseminate information to the community and broader public using multiple communication channels in reaching targeted publics

Performs other related duties as assigned


  • ·  A Bachelor’s Degree in the social sciences or humanities or any other relevant field will be considered. A masters’ degree in a related field is an asset

  • ·  Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience including community engagement services in the settlement and integration sector

  • ·  Demonstrated experience in establishing, coordinating and implementing innovative strategies for community engagement initiatives

  • ·  Demonstrated ability to establish confident relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

  • ·  Ability to identify community engagement development opportunities and communicate them timely with

    senior staff and other stakeholders

  • ·  Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills and critical thinking capabilities

  • ·  Experience providing support in the administration of research and evaluation tools and techniques

  • ·  Intermediate mastery of MS Office and specialized social science research software

  • ·  Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • ·  Proactive, resourceful, takes ownership, and is able to work effectively on diverse and complex issues under

    time constraints

  • ·  Sound organizational skills

  • ·  Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • ·  Experience delivering services in an efficient and timely manner within budget guidelines

  • ·  Ability to thrive while managing competing priorities and meeting target deadlines

  • ·  Project management experience is an asset


· Clean driver’s license
