Nature and Scope:

Reporting to the Manager of Fitness and Aquatics, this position will be responsible for ensuring excellence in member service through the planning and administration of Fitness programs, including those developed for an aquatics environment.
A full service facility currently serving 3000 members and a budget of $1.8 million, the Lethbridge YMCA employs 15 full time staff and approximately 50 part time staff and involves the service of over 30 volunteers.


  •   Recruit, build, manage and support an engaged and responsive team of staff and volunteers to deliver programs that meet objectives of the organization.

  •   Assist in, and in some cases lead the development, controlling, promoting and evaluation of the Aquatics and Fitness Program Department budgets, statistics, program information/brochures, schedules and guides. The value-based programs offered will align with Lethbridge YMCAs' Strategic and operating Plans.

  •   Work closely with other organization directors to coordinate programs and initiatives.

  •   Lead and manage excellent membership Health and Wellness programs and services to achieve annual goals.

  •   Lead and adapt as needs change with the opening of a new facility in 2019 by contributing to the development

    of a comprehensive operational readiness plan and program development to support an expanded

    membership growth and increased staffing component related to Aquatics and fitness programming.

  •   Follow YMCA Priority SAM standards and implement continuous improvement processes as required

  •   Ensure excellent membership service by identifying the needs of relevant adults, children and youth by

    responding in a timely manner to enhance each members/participants YMCA experience through

    relationship building.

  •   Represent the YMCA on relevant committees.

  •   Lead initiatives to enhance the experience of the members and the staff teams understanding and

    involvement of the YMCA.

  •   Create a strong philanthropic culture by leading initiatives that achieves increased levels of volunteerism and

    giving through a successful Strong Kids Campaign.

  •   Ensure monthly safety inspections have been completed in department areas and follow-up on recommended


  •   Schedule relevant training courses for staff/instructors/volunteers, instruct same as qualifications permit.

  •   Provide on-going evaluation of emergency preparedness of staff and facility.

  •   Work in a team environment to achieve optimal collective results by providing support as necessary.

  •   Adherence to YMCA Child Protection Policy and Procedures.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  •   Post Secondary Education in a related field. Some examples include recreation, health and wellness, marketing, human resources, social sciences, education, exercise sciences

  •   Skills in Human Resource management and financial management

  •   Strong relationship building skills

  •   Customer service and quality focus driven

  •   Experience in the delivery of health, wellness and recreation programs and services is critical

  •   Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference

    Check/Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check issued no later than 3 months preceding your

    start date.

  •   NLS Aquatics training, or willingness to obtain is considered an asset

  •   WSI (water Safety Instructor) or willingness to obtain considered an asset

  •   Group Fitness instructor, or willingness to obtain, considered an asset

  •   YMCA experience considered an asset

  •   Candidate must present with a flexible work schedule which includes hours on weekends, evenings and early



  •   Relevant required training costs paid

  •   Comprehensive Health, Dental and extended health package after 3 months FT employment

  •   5% pension eligible after 2 years FT employment
