Health and Safety Manager - Oil/Gas

Location: Calgary, AB, Canada

Job type: This position is permanent part time position and hours are depending on work volume.

Our client is seeking a Safety Manager to support their rapidly growing business across their North American region of operations.

Our client is a leading provider of production testing equipment, services and rentals to the oil and gas industry in Western Canada and the United States. They are specialized in supplying flowback, production testing, workovers and completion operations on all types of oil and gas wells, and offer a full range of equipment for rent.

This Calgary based position will be responsible for:

•          Travel to field locations and regional offices will be required on a quarterly basis, or as needed.

•          Ensure that the company has an effective, efficient safety management system in place that is consistent with customer requirements, and which meets/exceeds regulatory compliance.

•          Provide excellence in safety leadership to all employees and support/foster a positive cultural aspect of safety in the organization.

•          Ensure that the company is actively compliant with the requirements of all relevant OH&S related agencies, associations, insurance providers, government regulations, industry best practices and others.

•          As required, provide timely and accurate reports to management, employees, customers and safety organizations et al with a standard that is consistent with the company requirements.

•          Proactively identify opportunities for improvement in terms of systems, processes and practices and lead the implementation of them.

•          Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, ethics and integrity in all dealings, consistent with a senior leadership position.

•          With the peer group, provide positive leadership to the organization in view of aggressive growth and change, ensuring that policies, processes and procedures are in-place, understood and followed by all employees.

•          Ensure employees are trained and suitably knowledgeable in relevant safety requirements, policy, procedure and processes.

•          Manage third party safety management systems (customer needs) such as ISNetWorld and others to ensure that we are always compliant and current with respect to requirements.

•          Coordinate all aspects of required OH&S audits (for government, insurance, system compliance etc.), including scheduling/procurement of audit services, preparation, coordination, hosting of auditors, provide key point of contact for auditors, summarize findings & lead efforts to address outstanding audit action items.

•          Manage and maintain all action items created through incident investigation, audits, and senior management goals etc. Actions should be tracked and reported on regularly to the senior leadership team.

•          Create, manage and maintain documents related to the work, using Microsoft Office software, and with minimal administrative support

•          Be knowledgeable in all relevant regulations in our regions of operation and establish methods to monitor and report on effectiveness.

•          Be knowledgeable in all relevant requirements driven by our customer’s safety, insurance and certification systems.

•          Provide positive leadership to all employees with respect to following safety rules and practices.

•          Implement improvement projects that are consistent with the company’s needs and organizational goals.

•          Other duties as required.

Key attributes of the successful candidate include:

•          A CSP designation

•          Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma from a Safety related program

•          A safety conscious individual with experience in OHS.

•          Certifications necessary to perform field visits (OSHA10, CPR/First Aid, H2S, Confined Space) preferred

•          Valid driver’s license is required

•          A valid passport and ability to travel internationally (no US travel restrictions)

•          Proficiency in using distance supported technologies such as Skype.

•          A self-starter and have the ability to train others.

•          Demonstrates a high degree of participation in quality improvement teams, and possesses strong communication skills.

•          Demonstrated quality improvement by improving work processes, completing tasks without defects and meeting deadlines within planned specifications.

•          Implementation skills - cost-efficient practices.


Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
